VesselVerse

2022
Web3NFTEthereumReactSolidityBasketball

VesselVerse merges basketball culture with blockchain technology through a collaboration with Victor Solomon — the artist behind the NBA, WNBA, and G League trophy redesigns — and 3D capture technologist Andrew Kenney. The result: 9,125 unique digital collectibles that transform Victor's sculptural "Vessel" art series into algorithmically-generated on-chain collectibles.

About Victor Solomon

Victor Solomon is a multidisciplinary artist and creative director whose work spans the NBA, NFL, Nike, Kith, ESPN, and more. He's responsible for the "Literally Balling" series — stained glass, fine jewelry, and furniture all riffing on basketball iconography — and redesigned the official trophies for the NBA, WNBA, G League, and NBA 2K. VesselVerse brought his physical sculptural art onto the blockchain.

Three-Phase Launch

The project rolled out across three distinct phases:

  • Genesis Vessel — A free mint establishing community governance rights and the ecosystem foundation
  • Season 1 Auctions — A modified Nouns auction protocol releasing vessels on an hourly cadence
  • Season 2 Mint — A public mint timed to NBA All-Star Weekend with reveal mechanics for collectors

Tech Stack

The end-to-end platform was built from scratch: custom smart contracts in Solidity on Ethereum, a React + TailwindCSS frontend, wagmi for all blockchain interactions, and AWS ECS with web3.py for backend contract event monitoring — handling everything from auction management to gas-optimized minting.
